چکیده

Within the context of a fractal paradigm that emphasizes nature’s well-stratified hierarchical organization, the δ Scuti class of variable stars is investigated for evidence of discrete cosmological self-similarity. Methods that were successfully applied to the RR Lyrae class of variable stars are used to identify Atomic Scale analogues of δ Scuti stars and their relevant range of energy levels. The mass, pulsation mode and fundamental oscillation period of a well-studied δ Scuti star are then shown to be quantitatively self-similar to the counterpart parameters of a uniquely identified Atomic Scale analogue. Several additional tests confirm the specificity of the discrete fractal relationship. c © Electronic Journal of Theoretical Physics. All rights reserved.

Four New δ Scuti Pulsators from a Variability Survey of 131 Stars

In a photometric variability survey of 131 stars with B . 14 mag, we have found four new δ Scuti stars. We were sensitive to oscillation amplitudes as low as a few mmag. The detection rate of short-period (P < 0.1 d) pulsating variable stars, which may be relevant for planned large variability surveys such as GAIA, POI, and even the LSST, was therefore 3%. All four new variable stars have low p...

A search for delta Scuti stars in northern open clusters

In an effort to test stellar structure and evolution models, analysis of oscillations in A and F stars in open clusters is carried out by the STACC network (Frandsen 1992). In this paper we describe our effort to locate a suitable open cluster in the northern hemisphere for a future multi-site campaign. We present BV Johnson and time series CCDphotometry of four poorly studied open clusters: NGC...

Photometric Modal Discrimination in Δ Scuti and Γ Doradus Stars

Abstract. The potential of photometric methods for the identification of l, the degree of spherical surface harmonic of a pulsating star, is investigated with special emphasis on Strömgren photometry applied to δ Scuti and γ Dor variables. Limitations of actual model atmospheres when fine precision is required for the calculations of partial derivatives and integrals, which depend on limb darke...

Incidence of high-amplitude δ Scuti type variable stars

An order-of-magnitude estimate for the incidence of high-amplitude δ Scuti-type variable stars (HADS) in the δ Scuti area of the H-R diagram is calculated. Using a model for the stellar distribution in the Milky Way, we calculate the number of stars that are expected to fall in the δ Scuti area of the H-R diagram within the magnitude range and sky coverage of the ROTSE Survey for Variables I (R...

Discrete Self-Similarity between RR Lyrae Stars and Singly-Excited Helium Atoms

Classical variable stars called RR Lyrae stars have pulsating outer envelopes constituted of excited atoms. Here we demonstrate that the qualitative and quantitative properties of RR Lyrae variables and one subclass of their atomic scale constituents: singlyexcited helium atoms undergoing transitions between Rydberg states, share a remarkable degree of self-similarity. In terms of masses, radii...
